Directions for ... Locating and Evaluating On-line Lessons

Look for these 4 characteristics in science lessons and activities you find on the Internet.

1. The lesson is problem-based or has a task or activity to do.

2. The problem or task is clearly related to State Board of Education adopted science content standards such that students are learning grade-appropriate, state-mandated science content in doing the task or activity. (see standards links on SCORE Science for adopted standards)

3. The lesson has Internet resources embedded (links within the lesson) that help the student solve the problem, do the task, or try the activity.

4. The lesson includes suggestions for creating a product to demonstrate what has been learned, or as part of the activity there is a product created which shows what the student knows.

Some lessons will be better-designed than others, but the basic components need to be included.

DO: - Check the Lessons "Lessons Search" page to access current lessons. check out several examples before you start your search. - Communicate with other evaluators about what you find and submit so that others don't duplicate your efforts. (Email list will be sent) - Submit your lessons using the Add/Review form access via Add/Review link at bottom of website search page. Include grade(s) subjects(s) and standard(s) in the standards codes box. Include "lesson" as one of the keywords in the keywords box.

NOTE: To find a list of all resources, including lessons, that have been reviewed for SCORE Science, click the "List All Current Sites" button at the top of the Add/Review page to get an alphabetical list.
