Process

Students will be broken up into groups of 4 and assigned one of the following roles: Dr. John Wilson, M.D. (Pulmonary Specialist); Dr. Ray Alexander, M.D., Ph.D. (Epidemiologist); Judy Allen, R.N. (Epidemiology /Infectious Disease Specialist); Dr. Jim Spock, Ph.D. (Microbiology/Infectious Disease Specialist).

Using the internet resources provided for each role, students will study the medical journal related to the outbreak and develop a theory for the cause.

The group will then convene and make a recommendation to the community (the class) concerning the cause of the outbreak, methods to prevent the further spread of the illness, and a diagnoses for patients already stricken with the disease. Each specialist in the group should speak addressing the outbreak in reference to their particular specialty and research.

The recommendation should be in both a multimedia and written format.
