The town of Kohler is in a crisis
situation. In 1955 the Kohler River was dammed. Since then the amount of
salmon caught along the riverbanks has been declining. The local agricultural
areas and the Kohler Dam have caused a reduction of water flow in the river.
The sewage treatment plant has nearly reached its capacity to handle the
waste of the local population. Increasing use of pesticides has occurred
as a result of market demands for blemish free produce. A developer has
recently purchased a large parcel of land adjacent to the river and has
plans to develop it into a planned community with custom built homes on
large parcels of land.
The city leaders have called a meeting
to discuss the ecological challenges that are now facing the town of Kohler.
You will be representing your groups position at the follow up town meeting
scheduled for one week from today.
Using internet resources, you
will develop your groups proposal to address the concerns of the community.
You may communicate with other groups and members of the scientific community
to develop your viewpoint.
