To measure the concentration of an unknown substance, a standard with a known concentration is normally used, and a proportion is set up to compute the concentration of the unknown.
Sometimes the standard is so unstable that instead of measuring the standard each time, a one time standard curve is set up from which the technician can read all future unknowns.
Often absorbance is the measurement used to show concentration. A sample curve might look like this:
- If the absorbance of the unknown is 0.30, what is the concentration of the unknown? (Estimate to the nearest 0.1)
- If the absorbance of the unknown is 0.10, what is itís concentration?
